Summer is here and it with it comes higher temperatures, more humidity and a greater chance of rainstorms. Here’s how to protect your hearing aids from these damaging elements this summer.

Protect hearing aids from sweat

Moisture is damaging to hearing aids, no matter the source. As the temperatures go up we sweat more. Good for our bodies; bad for our hearing aids. Protect your hearing aids from sweat by wearing headbands. Wear one on your head and another on your hearing aid. The hearing aid sweatband fits directly over behind-the-ear hearing aids and absorbs sweat before it can damage your hearing aids.

Protect hearing aids from rain

During the winter, we wear a hat to protect our heads from cold, wet weather. In the summer you might skip the hat because of warmer temperatures.

If the forecast calls for rain, be sure to take an umbrella, raincoat with hood, slicker or rain hood to keep your hearing aids dry. It’s not too much hassle. What’s a hassle is going to the audiologist to try to get rain-soaked hearing aids repaired. Sometimes they can’t be fixed or have to be sent out for repairs.
